Italy Destination Wedding, Sardinia – Alice & Joao
This is my first Destination Wedding Photography blog and I hope not the last one. It was a special wedding for me as it was a wedding of my dear friends : Alice and Joao. Italian and Brazilian union. Union that had its beginning in London and of which I was a witness.
Alice and Joao decided to have their wedding in Sardara, Sardinia, despite them both living in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Sardara, a charming little town in a close vicinity of Cagliari, and only few km away from Samassi where Alice is from, has a lovely hotel with some thermal swimming pools and where the wedding was held. View Antiche Terme di Sardara website for more info. Christian Wedding Ceremony was in a charming and cosy, stone church build around XX/ XXI century called Church of Santa Maria Aquas. Both of the venues were very unique and a perfect representation of the couple style and taste. And also a perfect backdrop for a wedding photography.
After a very intimate religious ceremony came time for the traditional rice throwing, symbolising the showering of abundance and fertility on the bride and groom and plate smashing outside the church. Later on we had a bouquet throwing and some welcome drinks by the pool. And there obviously was a pork being roasted in front of the wedding guests. And when I say obviously , anyone involved knows why. Alice’s father, Atillio is the best pork roaster and macellaio in whole Sardinia. Fact. But there were also some splendid canapes and seafood served too.
After endless courses of food came time for endless toasts, handkerchief waving – no idea what that meant and some more italian wedding traditions like the cutting of grooms tie and removal of brides garter by the groom without the use of his hands.
More wedding photos were taken on the dance floor where DJ played italian golden hits, rock and some electronic music to keep all the guests happy.
And so everyone seem to be happy, some even till the early morning hours and even despite the fact that the day before a little tornado ravaged the venue. The weather anomaly that wasn’t observed in Sardinia before by anyone.
The post wedding couple photographs were taken in Stintino we used the beautiful surroundings of the local port and were absolutely blessed with the orange sunset during the Golden Hour. If you look closely you will see how much Alice enjoyed her wedding and how wrecked her dress got :)))
